14. She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar.

Amazingly, the bible has much to say about the food we take into our bodies and how we care for them. In the very beginning, man was a vegetarian. Genesis 1:29 “Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be your food.”

Man became an omnivore after the flood when the Lord allowed man to eat meat. Genesis 9:3-4 says “Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything. But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood in it.” Under Levitical law, God distinguished between the clean and unclean foods. Upon study of this, we find that the unclean foods were set apart to keep the newly freed nation of Israel healthy while wandering in the desert. They had adopted many bad eating habits while living in the pagan society of Egypt. The unclean animals were carnivores, meat eaters as well as garbage disposals. They ate the things that dirtied up the earth and what the animal ate, the people ate. This hasn’t changed, there hasn’t been any evolutionary cleanup!

In the New Testament, the Lord made it clear to Peter in Acts 10:15 to not call anything impure that God has called clean. Also, in Romans 14:20, Paul says “Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All food is clean, but it is wrong for a man to eat anything that causes someone else to stumble.”

Usually, it is our job to be the procurer of food stuffs in our households.  It is our job to be sure that we can supply our husbands and children with the healthiest foods that we can afford. Most women, now, do not need to bring their food from afar, all they have to do is drive to the nearest local grocery store.

Sometimes, we grow gardens and our men go hunting and fishing -- we might even go with them if we enjoy the hunt. The freshest types of foods are the best. Doing these things also provides good exercise giving us time to praise God for His abundant provision.

Please keep in mind, however, that many modern-day food manufacturers’ do not have our best health interest in mind. If you read the labels, you will find that they use dyes, chemicals, high-fructose corn syrups made from GMO’s, etc. The rates of disease and obesity have risen dramatically over the last 60 to 70 years because of these manufacturing practices.

Read 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 and fill in the blanks: “Do you not know that your __________ is a temple of the ________ ___________ , who is in you, whom you received from God? You are _________ your own; you were bought at a ____________. Therefore, honor God with your __________.”

Personal Question:  How do I take the time and effort to make sure that my husband and children are given the best food that we can afford? ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
