22. She makes coverings for her bed;
she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
I love to be warm and snuggly when I sleep in the winter. In the summer, I still like to have a covering on me, even if it’s just a sheet. I feel more secure, not exposed.
Before we go to sleep at night, we check each one of our children to make sure that they are covered. We want to be sure that our babies are comfortable, safe and secure. We say little prayers over them and watch them as they sleep. What a blessing! The strings of our hearts are pulled.
Back in the day when women made the whole family’s clothing, she also made the coverings for the household beds. Sheets, blankets and quilts. Now days, the majority of us head to Wal-Mart,
J.C. Penney or another department store to purchase these items. However, there are still many women who make quilts both for utility and as an art form.
God longs to cover us and shelter us, keep us from being exposed to the dangerous destructive forces of the world. To keep us safely under His wings. Yet many times we want to go our own way, wandering away from His protection, away from that snuggly safe environment, like sheep seeking newer and greener pasture. Only to get lost and in trouble.
Psalm 91:1-2 says that “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty (El Shaddai). I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’”
Read the remainder of Psalm 91, it’s beautiful. It speaks of the Lord’s protection through all adversities as long as we remain under His Wings. (This is the Psalm prayer I have for my soldier son.)
Fill in the blanks for verse 4: “He will __________ you with his _____________, and under His __________ you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.”
Jesus, when He was confronting the Pharisees and teachers of the law, in Matthew 23, spoke of their waywardness and wept over their loss saying, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing.” His heart strings were pulled.
O, that we should always be willing to be gathered under the covering of our Lord’s wings, to trust and obey, not seeking to go our own way, but to walk His way. Then we will be clothed in soft fine linen colored in the royal hue of purple, letting the world know that we are children of the Most High God!
Personal Question: How can I stay in the shelter of the wings of the Lord, my God, not wandering astray going my own way? ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
