An Uncommon Woman in Uncommon Times

Proverbs 31:27-31

Lesson 4

Well, here we are ladies - our final lesson. Can you believe it? The Lord has taken us from the tidal surface of lighter reading to the deeper waters of His word. Totally immersing us in His love by teaching us how to appreciate the beauty He gave us to be women after His own heart.

I did not know where the Lord would take me on this journey in teaching about the Proverbs 31 woman or what words would come, but when they did, wow, what a blessing. I don’t know about you, but I will never read this section of scripture again in the same way.

Ezekiel 34:26 reads, “I will bless them and the places surrounding my hill. I will send down showers in season; there will be showers of blessing.”

I am imagining the absolutely beautiful trees that are in bloom this spring with all their blossoms and standing there taking in their scent and being showered in their petals when the breeze blows. Each petal a blessing of the Lord surrounding me. Praise Him!

27. She watches over the affairs of her household

and does not eat the bread of idleness.

As women, our primary responsibility is our household! It doesn’t matter if we work outside the home or not, our home is where we live, where our husbands live, where our children live. The basic foundations of life are there. It’s where we love, eat, sleep, play, cry, argue and do homework……..

Our homes are where the foundations of all society are formed. As we are seeing with our own eyes, American society is falling apart because the basic, sturdy foundations of loving homes are eroding due to high divorce rates, lack of fathers in the home, and mothers just up and leaving the fathers and children to follow their own personal desires.

Drugs, alcohol, and pornography are rampant. Movies and TV programs are degrading the institution of the family and trying with all their might to infiltrate the idea that homosexuality is a normal human function. They are teachers of false doctrine and new age religions, etc. These lies are being allowed in and are forcing their way into our homes, schools and work places. Satan is alive and well in our world!     Let’s read Romans 1:18-32.

Obviously, the Lord does NOT, by His word, want any of these things in our lives. He did not plan for these things to worm their way into secular homes, much less Christian homes.

Read Philippians 4:8 and fill in the blanks: “Finally, brothers, whatever is _________, whatever is ___________, whatever is ___________, whatever is __________, whatever is ____________, whatever is _______________ -- if anything is ______________ or __________________ -- think about such things.”

As the CEO’s of our households, it is up to us to be the filters, along with our husband’s endorsing strength, of what comes in and what goes out. We are to be watchful, not be idle by being caught up in constantly doing our own thing. We, as women, can at times become easily distracted, especially with both sides of our brains working overtime! Children moving about, preparing meals, cleaning, entertaining friends and family, unexpected phone calls, etc. It can be frustrating. If we work outside the home that adds another dimension to the already complicated maze.

Though these next two verses are being written to widows, I believe that they also apply to all women who call Jesus their Lord.

1 Timothy 5:13 & 14 says: “Besides, they get into the habit of being idle and going about from house to house. And not only do they become idlers, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things they ought not to. So I counsel younger widows to marry, to have children, to manage their homes and to give the enemy no opportunity for slander.”

Stay away from soap operas and bon-bons!

Personal Question: How do I watch over and manage the affairs of my household, keeping order and tranquility (?) never being caught in the trap of idleness? ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
